![]() | About The Tyne BridgeNewcastle's most instantly recognisable structure is the Tyne Bridge. It was opened by King George V on 10th October 1928. The bridge was completed on 25 February 1928 and opened on 10 October by King George V and Queen mary.The Tyne Bridge's towers were built and were designd as warehouses with five storeys.however,the inner floors of the warehouses in the bridges toweres were not completed and,as a result,the storage areas were never used.lifts for passengers were built in the towers to provide access to the Quayside although they are no longer in use. |

The Tyne bridge was built 1928
The total cost of the bridge was £1,200,000m it was built by Dorman Long of Middlesbrough.The road deck is 84 feet above the water.The weight of the bridge is 7,112 metric tonnes.
